About
Grewia damine is a densely-branched, deciduous shrub or small tree, typically growing 2-10 metres tall, with rugged, ash-grey bark that peels in thin layers. Its ovate to elliptic leaves are hairy on both surfaces and have finely serrated margins. Small yellow flowers can appear almost year-round in some regions, followed by globose, fleshy fruits that mature to a dark purple or black hue and are edible.

This heat and drought-tolerant shrub thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soil, making it suitable for a Kilifi-coast garden. It can serve as an ornamental specimen, attracts birds with its edible fruits, and may be used in restoration efforts for dryland areas.
