About
This perennial shrub, often cultivated as an annual, grows up to 2 metres tall, featuring broad, 3-5 lobed leaves. It produces large, cup-shaped, creamy white to yellow flowers, often with a purple spot, followed by distinctive bolls that split open to reveal white fibres. Widely valued for its textile fibres and edible seed oil, it also holds traditional medicinal uses, such as a root decoction for stomach-ache in East Africa.

Ideal for a Kilifi-coast garden, this plant thrives in full sun and fertile, well-drained soils, including those with moderate salt levels. Plant as a specimen or in a restoration area, ensuring adequate spacing of 1.5-2 metres for best development.
