About
This deciduous tree can reach heights of 7-24 metres, featuring a spreading crown and grey to brown bark that becomes rough with age. Its pinnately compound leaves have 2-3 pairs of leaflets, which emerge yellow before maturing to pink-flushed and pale green. It produces small, pink and yellowish flowers, followed by orange to golden-brown, velvety, 2-lobed, subspherical berries with edible fleshy pulp.
Where it works in Kilifi
Suitable for a Kilifi-coast garden or landscape as a specimen or shade tree, it thrives in well-drained soils and can tolerate a range of sun exposures, including seasonally dry conditions and rocky areas. Allow ample space for its spreading crown.
