Gardenia fiorii is a shrub or small tree native to eastern Ethiopia and Kenya, thriving in desert or dry shrubland biomes. Like other Gardenia species, it typically features glossy, dark green leaves. The genus is well-known for producing fragrant white to cream-coloured flowers, often with a waxy texture and a strong scent, especially noticeable at night.
Where it works in Kilifi
This Gardenia species prefers a location with full sun to partial shade, ideally with morning sun and protection from intense afternoon heat, which is beneficial in hot climates like Kilifi. It thrives in rich, acidic (pH 5.0–6.5), and well-drained soil, making it suitable as a specimen plant, for informal shrub plantings, or near seating areas to enjoy its potential fragrance.
