This evergreen tree typically reaches 15 metres, but can exceptionally grow up to 40 metres tall, often beginning life as an epiphyte before developing into a free-standing strangler fig. It features a dense, rounded or flat crown and pale to dark grey bark that flakes off. Its glossy, broadly ovate leaves are often heart-shaped, while the smooth, purple-green ripe figs are borne in clusters on older wood.

Ideal for coastal Kilifi gardens as a specimen or shade tree, and suitable for restoration projects due to its native habitat in coastal rainforests and dry forests.
