About
This species presents as a shrub or small deciduous tree, sometimes growing as an epiphyte or strangler. Its leaves are spirally arranged, oblong to elliptic or ovate, with a shortly acuminate tip and a rounded to heart-shaped base. The small, (sub)globose figs are borne in pairs in the leaf axils or on older wood, and are typically sessile or nearly so.
Where it works in Kilifi
This fig species is well-suited for a Kilifi-coast garden, thriving in savanna woodland and even on coral rocks above beaches. It can serve as a specimen tree or be incorporated into mixed plantings, especially in well-drained, sandy or rocky soils, preferring full sun to partial shade.

Ficus nigropunctata is a deciduous species that can grow rapidly, requiring regular pruning to maintain desired size. Once established, it is tolerant of dry conditions due to water storage, but prefers consistently moist, well-drained soil and can be sensitive to overwatering or cold drafts.
