About
Euphorbia fluminis is a loosely branched succulent shrub, typically growing up to 2 metres tall, native to Kenya's Tana River district. It features sparsely branched, pinkish-grey stems adorned with single spines that are slightly forked at their tips. This species produces distinctive reddish-orange to burgundy-red cyathia, which are its characteristic flower structures.
Where it works in Kilifi
This succulent shrub thrives in full sun and requires well-drained soil, making it ideal for Kilifi's coastal gardens. It can serve as an attractive specimen plant, be incorporated into a succulent garden, or form a low hedge, given its drought tolerance once established.
Growing notes
Maintain temperatures above 16°C; it is not frost-hardy. Once established, water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings, as it is highly drought tolerant. Exercise caution when handling due to its irritating and toxic milky sap.
