About
A straggling evergreen shrub or small tree, Erythroxylum emarginatum typically grows up to 6 metres tall. Its dark green, leathery leaves are oblanceolate to elliptic with a notched apex, distinctly held in one plane with flattened branch ends. It produces small, sweetly scented white flowers, followed by fleshy, ellipsoid drupes that ripen to a red colour.
Where it works in Kilifi
This versatile shrub is suitable for Kilifi-coast gardens, thriving in partial shade to full sun, reflective of its natural habitats in forest understories and rocky outcrops. It can be planted as an ornamental specimen or incorporated into a hedge, and is well-suited for restoration projects in diverse tropical African habitats.
