About
This small, semi-creeping succulent features narrow stems up to 20 cm long, covered with hexagonal tubercles. Its distinguishing jug-shaped (urceolate) flowers are wine-red on the exterior and reddish to dark red inside, typically 5-8 mm long. Endemic to Southeast Kenya, it naturally occurs in deep, red, sandy soils.
Where it works in Kilifi
Ideal for Kilifi-coast gardens in partially shaded areas, such as under larger shrubs, or as a specimen in a rock garden. It thrives in well-draining, sandy soil.
Growing notes
This succulent prefers moderate watering during the growing season, allowing soil to dry completely between applications. It is not frost-hardy and requires temperatures above 10°C. It is easily propagated from stem cuttings.
