This indigenous Kenyan shrub grows in coastal forests on coral rag, reaching altitudes between 5 and 290 metres. Its small leaves measure 1.5 to 6.6 cm long. The plant produces yellow, petalless flowers that are covered in yellow hairs; male flowers have 5 tepals, while female flowers feature a bifurcate stigma and a densely hairy ovary. Fruits are small, velvety hairy, and spherical, typically 0.8 to 1.5 cm in diameter, each containing 2-3 densely woolly seeds.

Native to coastal lowland moist evergreen forests and coral rag in the Kilifi District, this shrub is well-suited for restoration plantings or as an indigenous specimen in a coastal garden environment.
