About
Dorstenia goetzei is an undershrub, typically growing up to 15 cm tall, with succulent, erect stems that can be unbranched or branched and up to 8 mm thick. The stems bear conspicuous scars from fallen leaves, stipules, and inflorescences. Leaves are arranged in spirals and are oblong to narrowly lanceolate or elliptic with undulating and often crenate margins. It produces unusual disc- or cup-shaped inflorescences, and its drupe-like fruits explosively scatter seeds upon maturity.
Where it works in Kilifi
This succulent undershrub thrives in bright light or partial to full shade and requires well-drained soil. It is suitable for a Kilifi-coast garden as a specimen plant, particularly in rock gardens or open, deciduous bushland settings. Given its hardiness in warm zones, it is well-suited for the coastal climate.

Dorstenias are warm-loving plants that appreciate a fair amount of water during their growing season; allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings but avoid complete desiccation. Reduce watering significantly during winter dormancy to prevent rot. Fertilise occasionally during the active growing period with a diluted balanced fertilizer.
