About
Diospyros amaniensis is an evergreen shrub or small tree, typically growing 3-10 metres tall, with smooth grey bark and oblong, glossy dark green leaves, 9-28 cm long and 3-11 cm wide. It produces white, tubular flowers and globose, brownish-hairy fruits about 1.5 cm in diameter, containing eight black, shiny seeds. This species is native to East Africa, particularly southeastern Kenya and Tanzania, thriving in seasonally dry tropical and subtropical forests.
Where it works in Kilifi
This species is suitable for Kilifi-coast gardens, functioning as an ornamental plant or hedge. It prefers well-drained soil and can be found in coastal vegetation, suggesting it would adapt well to a warm, sheltered environment.
