About
Dalbergia eremicola is a spiny, deciduous shrub or small tree, typically growing 1.5 to 5 metres tall. It features grey or greyish-brown bark that flakes irregularly. The compound leaves consist of 6 to 17 oblong, sparsely hairy leaflets. Small, fragrant white flowers are borne in short racemes or panicles, followed by papery, single-seeded pods.
Where it works in Kilifi
This species is naturally found in arid to semi-arid deciduous bushlands and on rock outcrops, indicating a preference for full sun and well-drained, coarse sandy or rocky soils. In a Kilifi-coast garden, it would be suitable for dry areas, xeriscaping, or as a hardy specimen in restoration plantings, particularly where its spiny nature can be appreciated for security or as a natural barrier.
