This perennial climber or prostrate creeper can reach up to 3 metres in length, with stems, petioles, and leaves covered in rough, backward-pointing bristly hairs. Its triangular to broadly ovate leaves are typically 2-10 cm long, either unlobed or shallowly 3-5-lobed, with small sinuate teeth along the margins. It produces pale yellow, unisexual flowers up to 2 cm in diameter, followed by ovoid to ellipsoid, tuberculate fruits that are 1.5-2.7 cm long and can be green or yellow.
