About
The genus Crotalaria comprises over 700 species of herbaceous plants and shrubs, with the majority native to Africa. These plants are often characterised by their inflated, subcylindric pods, where seeds rattle when mature, giving rise to generic common names like 'rattlepod' or 'rattlebox'. Many Crotalaria species are found in damp grasslands, floodplains, and along river edges, as well as in drier locations like roadsides and open fields.
