Cordia torrei is a deciduous shrub or tree, typically reaching around 5 metres in height, indigenous to Southeast Kenya and northern Mozambique. It is characterised by branches that are initially hairy but become smooth, and alternate obovate to elliptic leaves with margins that are subentire to irregularly serrate-dentate. Female flowers feature a narrowly infundibuliform calyx, with a potentially white, glabrous corolla having four oblanceolate lobes.
Where it works in Kilifi
This species thrives in seasonally dry tropical biomes, including forests and rock outcrops, suggesting it would be suited to well-drained soils in a Kilifi garden or landscape. It could serve as a specimen tree or be incorporated into restoration plantings in areas with suitable conditions.
