Goetze's Cordia is a small to medium tree, often growing 2-15 metres tall, occasionally reaching 18 metres, with an irregularly fluted, smooth trunk. Its distinctive blue-grey or greyish-white bark often peels to reveal a dove-grey underbark. It features broadly elliptic to obovate leaves, white or creamy-yellow funnel-shaped flowers, and orange, ovoid-conical fruits cupped in a toothed calyx.
Where it works in Kilifi
This species thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soil. It serves well as an ornamental specimen tree, a windbreak, or for providing shade in Kilifi-coast gardens, especially in areas mimicking riverine fringes or woodland edges.
Growing notes
