A robust liana, Cissus integrifolia is a woody climber that features forked tendrils and produces a gum-like latex when cut. Its broadly ovate, often heart-shaped leaves, are typically hairless and can reach up to 10 cm long. Small, yellowish-green flowers give way to ellipsoid, red, grape-like fruits when ripe.

Thriving in riverine vegetation, evergreen forests, woodlands, bushlands, and grasslands, this plant is well-suited for coastal Kilifi gardens. It can be used as a vigorous climber for covering structures or as a groundcover in partial shade to bright indirect light, preferring moist, well-drained soil.
