About
An evergreen tree reaching up to 20 metres tall, Chrysophyllum viridifolium features a stem often fluted at the base with mottled pale grey, smooth bark. Its oblong leaves are glossy dark green on top, with paler undersides showing fine rusty hairs, particularly along the midrib. Small, white flowers appear in axillary clusters, developing into edible, subspherical yellow fruits when ripe, which measure up to 3.5 cm in diameter.
Where it works in Kilifi
This species thrives in coastal forest environments, making it ideal for restoration projects in Kilifi, or as a shade tree or specimen plant in larger gardens. It is well-suited to areas with well-draining soil and can tolerate full sun to partial shade.
