About
A medium to large tree, sometimes shrub-like, distinguishing itself with ovate to oblong leaves that feature a distinctive long drip-tip and a slightly rough texture. Its fruit is a small, conical-ovoid drupe, typically dark yellow when ripe. This species is native to diverse African habitats, often found in moist evergreen and semi-deciduous forests, riverine areas, and coastal forests.

Ideal for open, sunny locations in coastal Kilifi gardens, this species thrives as a shade tree or a pioneer plant in reforestation efforts. It tolerates various forest soils and can be planted to improve soil conditions.
Growing notes
Known for its rapid growth when exposed to full sunlight, this tree prefers moist conditions once established. Wood dust can cause irritation, and the freshly cut wood has a persistent unpleasant smell.
