About
This attractive, small to medium-sized tree is highly valued for its profusion of bright yellow, often red-streaked, pea-like flowers that appear in large clusters. These vibrant blossoms are followed by distinctive long, woody, cylindrical pods that persist on the tree.
Where it works in Kilifi
Thriving in full sun and well-drained soils, this makes an excellent ornamental specimen tree or provides light shade in Kilifi gardens. Ensure ample space for its mature spread, planting at least 4-5 metres from structures.
Growing notes
It exhibits a medium to fast growth rate and is remarkably drought-tolerant once established, requiring minimal supplementary watering. This hardy species is relatively low-maintenance and thrives with little intervention.
