About
Bullockia mombazensis is a compact, sometimes straggling shrub or small tree, rarely a liana, native to East Africa from southern Somalia to Mozambique. Its leaves are broadly elliptic to round, measuring 2.2–13 × 1–7.5 cm, often with one in an opposite pair larger than the other. The flowers are whitish or yellowish-green and short-lived, featuring a ring of inwardly directed hairs at the throat, while the flattened obovoid fruit matures to dark maroon with persistent calyx lobes.
Where it works in Kilifi
This species thrives in seasonally dry tropical biomes and is often found in forest understories on calcareous or sandy soils. It can be planted in a Kilifi-coast garden in partial shade to dappled light, making it suitable for underplanting or as a specimen, particularly in areas with well-draining, calcareous soils.
