About
Bulbostylis hispidula subsp. intermedia is an annual sedge, typically growing 10-40 cm tall, occasionally reaching up to 80 cm. Its slender, angular stems support narrow leaves, which are often hairy and can be up to 15 cm long. A distinguishing feature is the pale leaf sheaths, bearing long, fine hairs at the mouth that give a woolly appearance. The inflorescence consists of ovoid to elongate spikelets, 4-15 mm long, with glumes ranging from pale to dark red-brown.
Where it works in Kilifi
Native to Southeast Kenya, this sedge is well-suited for open, sandy areas and seasonally wet or marshy grasslands on the Kilifi coast. It can be used for groundcover or erosion control in sites with fluctuating moisture, such as the margins of seasonal ponds or disturbed sandy ground.

This is an annual plant, growing with a slender root system. It thrives in seasonally dry tropical biomes and prefers sandy habitats, tolerating periods of both drought and seasonal flooding.
