About
This perennial sedge is native to Southeast Kenya and is typically found growing in clumps, reaching up to 2 feet in height. Its glumes are a distinctive dark red-brown with a green keel, which gradually fades to a lighter brown over time. The species also features pale brown anthers.
Where it works in Kilifi
Indigenous to coastal Southeast Kenya, this species thrives in seasonally dry tropical biomes, making it well-suited for Kilifi-coast gardens. It is ideal for planting in areas with full sun and well-drained, sandy soils, fitting well in dry landscapes or restoration efforts.
