About

This hardy, evergreen tree is noted for its dense, rounded canopy and tough, leathery leaves which give it a distinctive appearance. It produces clusters of small, fragrant yellowish flowers followed by spherical, yellow-orange fruits that are edible and attract wildlife.

Where it works in Kilifi

Thriving in full sun and well-drained soils, this species is excellent for xeriscaping, land restoration projects, or as a striking specimen tree in open landscapes. Its compact growth habit allows for placement in gardens where a medium-sized, drought-tolerant tree is desired, offering good shade once mature.

Growing notes

It exhibits a moderate growth rate and, once established, requires very little water, making it extremely drought-hardy. This resilient tree is well-suited to the harsh coastal conditions of Kilifi and generally pest-free, requiring minimal pruning.
