About
This evergreen is typically a multi-stemmed shrub or small tree, generally reaching 2-6 metres in height. It features hard, leathery, grey-green leaves up to 6 cm long with sharply pointed tips and a clear midrib. Dense, fragrant heads of yellow-green flowers develop into rounded, fleshy fruits, 1-2 cm across, which ripen from light green to brown and contain sweet pulp liked by birds and baboons.

Thriving in full sun, this species is well-suited for Kilifi's arid coastal conditions, including rocky, loose red clay, or sandy soils, and it tolerates saline environments. It serves effectively as a shade tree, a specimen plant, or for restoration in dryland gardens.

Boscia coriacea is slow-growing and drought-tolerant once established, requiring low annual rainfall (300-500 mm). Propagation is typically from fresh seeds or seedlings.
