About
Boerhavia species are generally herbaceous annuals or perennials, often displaying a sprawling or erect habit with stems that can be green, sometimes tinged purple, and swollen at the nodes. These plants produce small, often pink, white, or red flowers in clusters. Their distinguishing small, sticky, ribbed fruits are easily dispersed. Many species are known for their ability to thrive in disturbed, dry, and sandy environments.
Where it works in Kilifi
This versatile herb is well-suited for full sun in Kilifi-coast gardens, especially in disturbed areas, sandy fields, and roadsides. It can serve as an effective ground cover for erosion control or for naturalising dry, challenging spots, tolerating conditions of low humidity and drought.

Boerhavia species typically exhibit a fast growth rate and are drought-tolerant once established, preferring well-drained soil. They are generally robust and can tolerate low humidity and warm temperatures, but may be sensitive to frost.
