Barleria polhillii is a perennial or subshrub native to Kenya and northern Tanzania. It is found primarily in seasonally dry tropical biomes or desert and dry shrubland areas. As with other species in the Barleria genus, it likely features flowers with a four-partite calyx and hygrochastic fruits.
Where it works in Kilifi
Given its natural habitat in dry tropical and shrubland biomes of Kenya, Barleria polhillii is well-suited for full sun exposure and well-drained soil in Kilifi-coast gardens. It could serve as an excellent plant for xeriscaping or habitat restoration in arid areas.
Growing notes
This perennial is expected to grow throughout the year in appropriate conditions. Once established, it requires moderate watering, particularly when the topsoil becomes dry.
