About
Angraecum dives is an epiphytic subshrub native to East Africa, including southwestern Somalia and Tanzania, extending to Socotra. It primarily grows in seasonally dry tropical biomes. Like many species in its genus, it is expected to produce star-shaped flowers that are often white or green, fragrant at night, and feature a distinct long nectar spur.
Where it works in Kilifi
This orchid thrives in medium bright, indirect light, making it suitable for mounting on bark or growing in baskets in a Kilifi-coast garden. It requires warm to intermediate temperatures and good air circulation to prevent fungal issues.
Growing notes
Water frequently, ensuring the roots dry out thoroughly between waterings, and reduce frequency during cooler, drier periods. Plant in a well-draining orchid mix, such as a blend of fir bark, sphagnum moss, and perlite. Repotting should be done carefully every 1-2 years, as these orchids dislike root disturbance.
