About
This perennial herb is native to Kenya's Tana River and Kwale Districts, typically found in black cotton soil with sand, on termite mounds, and at the edges of thickets. It is distinguished by its more elongate cincinni, which feature widely spaced, glandular-margined bracteoles, especially noticeable in later inflorescences. Initial flower clusters are distinct thyrses with a short axis.
Where it works in Kilifi
Well-suited for underplanting in a Kilifi coastal garden or as a groundcover in partial shade to full sun. Its natural habitat on termite mounds suggests adaptability to well-drained, potentially rich soils within bushland and thicket settings.
Growing notes
Propagation is readily achieved from stem cuttings, which root easily in coarse river sand. While specifics for this species are limited, related Aneilema species thrive with plenty of water, especially during dry spells, suggesting regular watering is beneficial once established.
