Spleen Amaranth is an erect annual herb, typically growing 80–120 cm tall, with slender to stout, often branched stems that can sometimes have a pinkish-red hue. It features oval to elliptic green or red leaves, measuring 1.5–12 cm long, and produces small green flowers in dense spikes. This species is valued as a highly nutritious leafy vegetable, rich in protein, vitamins, and minerals, and is commonly cooked in many tropical regions.

This fast-growing herb thrives in full sun and prefers well-drained, fertile soil, tolerating a wide pH range.
