About
This East African succulent features a creeping stem, reaching up to 1 metre, topped with a rosette of grey-green to olive-green leaves, sometimes tinged red. Its leaves are 50-70 cm long with small white or light brown teeth along the margins. Tall, branched inflorescences bear striking bright red flowers, occasionally with lighter coloured mouths.
Where it works in Kilifi
Ideal for sunny positions in Kilifi-coast gardens, requiring light, well-drained sandy or gritty soil. It functions well as a specimen plant or in a rock garden due to its drought tolerance.
Growing notes
Thrives in strong light and tolerates high temperatures and drought once established. Water moderately, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings, and reduce watering in winter. It is cold-sensitive and must be protected from frost.
