About
This captivating succulent forms rosettes of fleshy, grey-green leaves, often with reddish-brown teeth along the margins. Mature plants can grow up to one metre tall, crowning a short, stout stem that sometimes branches into dense clusters. It produces vibrant, tubular flowers, typically coral-red or orange, on tall, unbranched inflorescences. The gelatinous leaf pulp has traditional medicinal uses for skin irritations and digestive ailments.
Where it works in Kilifi
Ideal for arid and semi-arid environments, this aloe thrives in well-drained soil, including rocky slopes, gravelly plains, and dry riverbeds. It is suitable for full sun to partial shade and can be used as a specimen plant or in rock gardens.
Growing notes
A drought-tolerant plant, it requires minimal water once established but benefits from occasional irrigation during hot, dry periods. Ensure excellent drainage to prevent root rot.
