About

This small to medium-sized tree features attractive, glossy green leaves and produces clusters of small, fragrant white flowers. These are followed by decorative, spherical fruits that ripen to black, providing food for local birdlife.

Where it works in Kilifi

This species thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soils, typical of the Kilifi coast. Its compact size makes it an excellent choice for a garden specimen or as part of a native plant restoration project, with spacing of 3-5 metres.

Growing notes

It exhibits a moderate growth rate and, once established, is quite drought-tolerant, requiring minimal supplementary watering. Ensure adequate drainage to prevent root rot in wetter conditions, otherwise it is low-maintenance.
