About

This widespread annual herb features clusters of small, fluffy flowers, typically pale blue-purple or white, atop branched stems. Its leaves are soft, hairy, and toothed, contributing to its lush, if sometimes unkempt, appearance.

Where it works in Kilifi

Thriving in full sun to partial shade, this adaptable plant is best suited for naturalised areas or as a quick-forming groundcover in disturbed sites. It readily colonises open ground, making it suitable where a dense, fast-spreading cover is desired, though its prolific nature requires management.

Growing notes

A very fast-growing and hardy species, it requires minimal water once established and tolerates a wide range of conditions. Caution is advised as it can be highly invasive, aggressively self-seeding and outcompeting other plants if not managed.
