This annual herb typically grows 0.3-1 meter tall, though it can reach up to 2 meters, with erect, branching stems covered in fine white hairs. Its leaves are bright green, ovate to rhomboid, 2-10 cm long, with toothed margins and a distinctive, somewhat malodorous scent when crushed. Small, fluffy flower heads, usually white to mauve or light blue, are borne in clusters at the stem tips.
Where it works in Kilifi
Ageratum conyzoides thrives in full sun and prefers moist, well-draining loamy soil, making it adaptable to various disturbed sites such as roadsides and cultivated areas along the Kilifi coast. However, due to its highly invasive nature and ability to outcompete native plants, it is not recommended for intentional planting in indigenous gardens or landscapes.
