About
Afrocanthium pseudoverticillatum is an unarmed, deciduous shrub or small tree, typically reaching 2–6 metres in height. It features leathery, elliptic to ovate leaves, 2.5–7.5 cm long, which appear pseudo-whorled due to clustered nodes. The small, creamy, greenish-yellow, or yellow flowers are borne in axillary clusters, developing into fruits approximately 10 x 9 mm, each containing two stones.
Where it works in Kilifi
This species thrives in coastal Kilifi gardens and landscapes, suitable for full sun to partial shade. It prefers well-drained sandy or loamy soils and can be utilised as a specimen plant, for screening, or in restoration projects within dryland formations and coastal dry forests.
Growing notes
Adapted to seasonally dry tropical biomes, this plant is drought-tolerant once established and requires moderate watering. It prefers temperatures between 20–30°C and is suited to low-altitude environments.
