About
Acridocarpus alopecurus is a scrambling shrub or liana native to southeastern Kenya, DR Congo, and eastern Tanzania. It typically grows in wet tropical biomes, specifically in dry evergreen and riverine forests at altitudes from near sea-level up to approximately 150 metres. Distinguishing features include axillary inflorescences with a short axis that can become sausage-like and thickened post-flowering, and broadly ovate-triangular bracts, up to 1 mm long, which possess a pair of distinct circular glands at their base.
Where it works in Kilifi
This indigenous species is well-suited for coastal gardens and restoration projects in Kilifi, particularly within dry evergreen and riverine forest habitats. As a scrambling shrub or liana, it can be utilised to cover structures or allowed to ramble naturally within a suitable setting.
