About

This perennial rhizomatous grass forms large tufts, typically growing between 0.6 and 3 metres tall. It features conspicuously folded, lance-shaped leaf blades, which can measure 10-80 cm long and 0.7-11 cm wide. The open, lanceolate flower panicles, reaching 10-70 cm in length, bear reddish, pointed spikelets.

Where it works in Kilifi

Setaria sulcata thrives in shaded to lightly wooded areas, including forest clearings, humid slopes, and damp places near water or in riverine forests. Adaptable to altitudes from sea level up to 3000 metres, it is suitable for planting in the understory of trees or as part of restoration projects in moist, partially shaded environments along the Kilifi coast.
