Familiar tropical fruit tree, naturalised across the Kenya coast. Small to medium tree with smooth flaking bark and prolific fragrant fruit.

Where it works in Kilifi

Edible-garden and homestead settings. Full sun, well-drained soil. Self-fruiting — a single tree produces abundantly. Note: can be weedy in undisturbed bush.

Growing notes

Fast-growing and easy. Tolerates poor soil and drought once established. Fruits in 2–3 years from seedling. Light pruning keeps trees manageable and productive.
