Pandanus rabaiensis is an evergreen tree that can reach up to 20 metres in height. It is characterised by thick, woody stilt roots emerging from its lower trunk, providing crucial support. The long, sword-shaped leaves are arranged in a distinct spiral pattern, featuring spiny margins and a keeled midrib. This is a dioecious species, meaning both male and female plants are necessary for fruit production, and it is utilised for crafting mats, baskets, ornaments, and for soil conservation.

This species thrives in humid, moist environments such as swamps, limestone areas, white sand, or riverine forests along the coast of Kilifi. It prefers full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil, adapting well to coastal conditions. Due to its mature size and spreading stilt roots, it requires ample space, making it an excellent choice as a distinctive specimen tree or for restoration efforts in appropriate coastal habitats.
