About

Opilia amentacea is a highly variable evergreen plant, typically growing as a shrub or a vigorous climbing liana up to 15-30 metres long. It produces small, yellowish-green flowers in axillary racemes, which develop into ellipsoid, yellow to pale orange, single-seeded fruits that are edible. This species is a root hemi-parasite, naturally occurring in seasonally dry tropical biomes such as scrub, savannah, and coastal or riverine woodlands.

Where it works in Kilifi

This adaptable plant is suitable for Kilifi-coast gardens, thriving in full sun to partial shade within coastal bushland or dry forest settings. It can serve as a screen, an accent plant, or be integrated into restoration areas, providing edible fruits for wildlife.

Growing notes
