About
Monstera deliciosa is a vigorous evergreen climbing vine, native to the humid tropical forests of southern Mexico and Central America. It features large, glossy, heart-shaped leaves that develop distinctive natural perforations and deep lobes as they mature, giving it a characteristic "Swiss cheese" appearance. While the ripe fruit is edible and said to taste like a combination of pineapple and banana, it rarely fruits outside its native habitat, and unripe parts of the plant are toxic.

This ornamental plant thrives in warm, humid conditions typical of the Kilifi coast, preferring bright, indirect or filtered light; direct sun can scorch its leaves. Plant in rich, well-draining soil and provide sturdy support, such as a tree or trellis, to accommodate its climbing habit. It serves well as a striking specimen or tropical accent in gardens and larger containers.

Monstera deliciosa is a fast-growing vine that requires regular watering, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between applications to prevent root rot. It is hardy in tropical zones but growth ceases below 10°C and it is killed by frost, preferring temperatures between 18-30°C. All parts of the plant, except the fully ripe fruit, contain calcium oxalate crystals, which can cause irritation if ingested.
