About

Ellipanthus madagascariensis is a shrub or tree, capable of reaching 25-30 metres in height. Its young twigs and fruits are distinctly tomentose, with the mature fruits featuring a woody pericarp that dehisces to reveal black seeds with a cream-coloured aril. This species is native to northwest Madagascar and is also found in Kenya, Tanzania, and northern Mozambique, typically inhabiting seasonally dry tropical biomes.

Where it works in Kilifi

Given its natural distribution in seasonally dry tropical biomes across East Africa, including Kenya, this species is suitable for a Kilifi-coast garden or landscape. It can serve as a specimen or shade tree in areas with well-drained soil, adapting well to its native conditions.
