About

A small to medium-sized deciduous tree or large shrub, it features rough, flaking grey or brown bark. Its leaves are compound, with 9-19 ovate to lanceolate leaflets. Small, creamy white, sweetly scented flowers appear before or with new leaves, followed by flat, reddish-brown, elliptic-oblong pods. It naturally occurs in a variety of woodland habitats and forests across tropical Africa.

Where it works in Kilifi

This tree is well-suited for woodland or forest restoration efforts, particularly in areas with sandy soils, or as a small shade tree in a garden setting on the Kilifi coast. Its adaptable nature to seasonally dry tropical biomes suggests it can thrive in local conditions.
