About
This succulent shrub features a distinctive swollen basal stem, known as a caudex, and leathery, spirally arranged leaves clustered at the shoot tips. It produces showy, trumpet-shaped flowers in shades of red, pink, white, or yellow, often blooming in spring and summer. All parts of the plant contain a poisonous milky sap, traditionally used as an arrow poison in Africa.

Ideal for a Kilifi-coast garden, this plant thrives in full sun, requiring at least six hours of direct sunlight daily, though it benefits from some afternoon shade to prevent scorching. Plant in well-drained, porous soil, suitable for succulents or cacti. It serves as an excellent ornamental specimen, a striking container plant, or can be trained for bonsai.
