About

The iconic African baobab — extraordinarily long-lived, with a swollen trunk that stores water through the dry season. A keystone species supporting bats, bushbabies, and dozens of bird species.

Where it works in Kilifi

Open spaces with full sun and well-drained sandy soil. Excellent specimen tree for boundary plantings, large gardens, and farm centrepieces. Avoid waterlogged areas.

Growing notes

Drought-tolerant once established. Slow-growing in early years, then steady. Water young seedlings through their first two dry seasons; mature trees need no irrigation. Frost-free coastal climate suits it perfectly.
